HDPE: High-density polyethylene, economical, hydrocarbon plastic has a good moisture barrier and chemical resistance but low gas barrier properties.Used commonly for bags, bottles and household products.
LDPE: Low-density polyethylene plastic is very soft and pliable and used for parts that require flexibility. Most commonly used for sheeting, films and packaging material.
PET: Polyethylene terephthalate is a high gloss, crack-resistant transparent plastic which creates a good barrier to gas and moisture. Used commonly for containers in a wide range of colors, shapes and sizes. Darker colored PET bottles block UV rays from light sensitive materials.
PP: Polypropylene or polymerized propylene is a very light, strong, flexible plastic.Used commonly for coatings, plastic pipe, fibers for clothing fabrics and packaging materials.
PS: Polystyrene is a soft, smooth, light plastic that breaks easily when bent. It is a material that prevents heat or cold from passing through it. Used commonly for disposable cutlery, plastic models, CD and DVD jewel cases as well as packaging containers.
Glass: Glass is a hard, non-crystalline, transparent substance produced by fusion, usually consisting of mutually dissolved silica and silicates that also include soda and lime. Used commonly for windows, bottles and lenses. TYPE I Containers normally made of borosilicate glass having a highly resistant composition. TYPE II Containers made of commercial soda-lime glass which may have been treated on the inside surface at a high temperature to obtain a great improvement in chemical resistance. TYPE III Untreated glass containers made of commercial soda-lime glass of average or somewhat above average chemical resistance.
The plastic surrounding the opening of a bottle shaped to accommodate a specific closure. It's the portion of the neck that carries the threads or lugs to which the closure is applied and includes the sealing surface and sealing bead. Most common neck finishes include: continuous thread necks for twist-on caps and tamper evident necks for snap-on caps.
